1/ What mindset should our youth adopt during this trying period of global pandemic?

Learn, Change and Hope.

We are living in an unprecedented time. The youth generation is learning quickly and brutally that they have inherited a world that is broken and sick. Despite the advanced technology we are still vulnerable when nature strikes back. To be a custodian of such kind of world means that young people need to redefine their priorities and change their behaviour so there will be a future for their generation and the next to come. We can either come out of this crisis with a collective trauma, or with a collective hope to aspire to a new world that is more resilient, more socially and environmentally responsible, more empathetic, and more sustainable. Let’s be hopeful for the latter.

2/ What inspires you?

Any crisis is a test of resilience. The magnitude of this crisis means that no one is spared from the test. Obviously, the frontline health workers who risk their lives in service of others are incredibly inspiring, but also ordinary people who have extended their support to others through various acts of kindness in this trying time.

What is particularly inspiring to me personally is how our ministers have worked promptly and tirelessly together to help the country get through the crisis. The daily press conference held jointly by the minister of health and other ministers is an unprecedented new normal for Bruneians. The transparent communication of latest information and the dialogue that journalists have with the ministers have redefined policy making in Brunei and empowered all Bruneians to participate in the fight against Covid-19.
